During this bubbling i briefly acknowledge the thoughts /memories,assess their relevance, let them float away, then return my point of focus to the mantra and continue to embrace it as fully as i can

Well I was the one who told you to feed your mantra to your thoughts, those cheeky little devils and angels. Well some of them have been neglected for a long time so they may need some good long drinks of mantra. Give them liberation, I say.

I find that my mind can vary greatly in its experience of meditation. Sometimes thoughts that I have at the time just flow through with the rhythm of my mantra and at others, the mantra takes a step back and my mind becomes involved in the thoughts that come and go. The first one is what I consider to be a more peaceful and satisfying experience of meditation.
An experienced meditation teacher (oh I think it was you!!) once told me to give the mantra to the thoughts, which is a process often use, to varying degrees of success depending on how subtle my mind is at the time.
